One Direction saves the best for last (Or is it?)

Directioners have been biting their nails in anticipation for One Direction’s new album ever since the shocking news of Directions break. The band has been on the fritz ever since the sudden departure of band member Zayn Malik in March. Now the bad luck is over for now with the new album. Sadly, the band has decided to take a one year break. If this break actually means breakup, this album could be One Direction’s Abbey Road, the Beatles’ final record before they split. People say that this will be its best album, just like Abbey Road was for the Beatles. Harry, Louis, Niall and Liam have written nearly every song on the album, which shows off how mature they’ve become. Even if this is One Direction’s final album, at least they’ll go out with a bang.

“Drag Me Down”

If you haven’t heard “Drag Me Down” on the radio then you probably live under a rock. Not only is this one of their most popular songs, it is also the first song they’ve released since Zayn’s departure. Zayn was known for hitting those high notes and since he’s been gone, who’s job is it now? Harry and Louis have been filling in his shoes and doing an amazing job. “Drag Me Down” really showed One Direction’s fans that they can still produce great music without Zayn.

“Perfect”

“Perfect” is the album’s next single that reminds me of one of their most popular records “Night Changes.” It has been rumored to be about band member Harry Styles’s ex, Taylor Swift. And we all know Swift is famous for making songs about her exes. Styles’s has not admitted that the song is about Swift yet, but it does have an uncanny resemblance to Swift’s hit “Style.”

“Love You Goodbye”

I know we were all hoping that “Love You Goodbye” would be about Zayn, but sadly it’s not, even if the lyrics might sound like it. The force behind the lyrics came from band member Louis Tomlinson. Tomlinson said the inspiration from the song came from break-ups and last chances, which is pretty obvious with lyrics like “Won’t you give it to me one last time.”

“History”

By far, my favorite song on the album is “History” because of the resemblance to Directions “Act My Age” from their fourth album. It starts out slow like most of the other hits on the album, but eventually picks up the pace. The chorus has you tapping your feet with its catchy lyrics and acoustic guitar. Overall, this is one of the better songs on the album because it shows off the band’s vocal maturity through the lyrics.
