Jimmy Eat World album review

Jimmy Eat World’s latest album, “Integrity Blues”

Jimmy Eat World was one of the most iconic bands of the 90s and early 2000s with hit songs such as “The Middle” and “Sweetness.” The band is comprised of lifelong friends lead singer Jim Adkins and drummer Zach Lind, as well as guitarist Tom Linton and bass guitarist Mitch Porter. Since its formation in 1993, the band has released nine albums, most recently releasing “Integrity Blues.”

“You With Me”

This track starts with a mellow intro that slowly picks up as the lyrics begin. The song is all about a complicated relationship with lyrics like “What makes our love so hard to be? Is it you, or is that me?” It is evident from this song alone that the album will have a melancholy tone. I really like this song especially because of its catchy chorus, I’d have given anything/We play along, we sell/But only so much we can tell ourselves/Is it you? Or is it that you with me?/You with me/You with me.

“Sure and Certain”

“Sure and Certain” has a punk rock tune mixed with a beachy vibe and the lyrics of this song are about wandering the world. This track has an amazing instrumental in the middle of the song that really ties the whole song together, and I’d say it’s actually one of my favorite songs on the entire album.

“You Are Free”

This is by far the most inspirational song on the album. With lyrics like “You are free/To be who you want/What you need/Yeah, who you want/What you need Baby, you are free,” it is all about uplifting one’s self confidence and owning your identity.

Although Jimmy Eat World has just released its latest album, the band’s work from the early 2000s is still my favorite.  This album featured a few good songs, but no major standouts. Unless you’re a huge Jimmy Eat World fan, I wouldn’t recommend buying its album.
