Killer clubs conquer campus

Killer clubs conquer campus
Amber Yang

Trinity Prep students have oodles of extracurricular activities at their disposal.  In addition to sports, forensics, theater and student council, students have more than 50 clubs from which to choose.  The clubs list is endless; from math to art to fishing and everything in between.  In fact, many clubs are student-created based on individual interests.  While we all know about Base Camp and Key Club, there are some lesser-known clubs that are equally as interesting and worth signing up for.

Environmental Club

Leader: Alexa Harris

What type of club: A Club

Teacher Sponsor: Mr. Gray

The main purpose of Environmental Club is to try to get involved in more environmental happenings on Trinity campus and outside of school.  So far, leader Alexa Harris has properly labeled recycling bins like what should go into the trash, what goes in the recycling and what should go into compost.  She wants to post these signs all around school so students know where their trash should go.  Later this year Mr. Gray is attending a conference to green certify the campus.  If want to help make our campus more environmentally friendly and green, then you should sign up for environmental club.

Coffee Club

Leader: Rachel Ward

What type of club: A Club

Teacher Sponsor: Mrs. Massey-Burmeister

The main purpose of Coffee Club is for students to come together, drink a cup of coffee, and talk about various things going on in their lives or events happening here at Trinity.  For the first time ever, Coffee Club is going to have a service project.  The club is going to collect supplies for the Zion Children’s Hospital in the Bahamas.  Coffee Club has been around for a long time and has been passed on by many teachers.  If you want a relaxing club where you can drink coffee while doing community service, then Coffee Club is for you.

Save a Life Club

Leaders: Emily Vu and Lorenzo Guani

What type of club: B Club

Teacher Sponsor: Ms. Davidson

Save a Life Club is a new club this year at Trinity.  If you like helping animals, you should definitely sign up for this club.  Save a Life Club wants to get a lot of volunteers to help animals at animal shelters.  Save a Life is the shelter where the volunteers work. They help set up the medicine for the dogs and make sure the animals always have plenty of food and water.  The club has been trying to organize people to volunteer at the organization.  One member, Zachary Watson raised $600 for the Save a Life Club to help buy new supplies for the animals.

STEM Club

Leaders: Amber Yang and Lia Jueng

What type of club: B Club

Teacher Sponsor: Mrs. Wehr

STEM Club is mainly a girl based club.  Club members help encourage girls who are afraid of joining the STEM fields.  They help promote underprivileged girls in the Orlando area with Science and Math.  Members are trying to promote the girls’ interest in those fields of study.  So far, they have tutored children in the local area who are in the Girls and Boys Club.  STEM Club is also partnered with the Girl Scouts of Florida and plan to have a convention later this year.  If you want to help tutor underprivileged children, then you should sign up for STEM Club.
