Trinity’s Terrific Traditions

Trinity is a school that is built on traditions. They show up in our lives everyday; just think about how many times you pass the rock. The traditions are part of what makes our school so special. They help keep the Trinity family connected. I’d be willing to bet that every alumni since the rock came to our school remembers it. They’d probably also have a great memory from Headmaster’s Day and a funny story from Senior Squirt Day.
Headmaster’s Day: Headmaster’s Day is one of the favorite traditions here at Trinity. Towards the end of the year, Mr. Maughan chooses a day for the grades to battle it out in different sports. A rocket is launched to start the day and it ends with the famous rope pull across the canal. Cassie Veneziano says, “My favorite part of Headmaster’s Day is all of it! I’m really excited to participate in the junior-senior rope pull this year!” Mr. Maughan says, “Headmaster’s Day is a wonderful tradition because it gives everyone at the school an opportunity to have fun and to participate in a variety of games. It is also a surprise break from the regular routine that serves to tie our current students to all of the alumni who enjoyed Headmaster’s Day when they were student’s here.” Personally, my favorite part about Headmaster’s Day is the fact that it is always a surprise!
The Rock: The Rock is probably the most unique part of our campus. To an outsider, it probably seems strange, but to someone who is part of the Trinity family, it is just an integral part of the school. There is even a fable of how the Rock came to campus. Apparently, a graduating senior asked her father for a rock. She meant a ring, but in typical Dad fashion, he attempted to be funny and arranged to have a giant rock airlifted into the quad. Painting the Rock is a coveted senior privilege. It changes themes for anything, from holidays to Breast Cancer Awareness Week to being the main part of a prom ask! Chloe Knight says, “I’ve been excited to paint the rock since I got here in middle school. Now that I’m a senior and I finally can, it’s really fun to get a group together to paint it for different occasions!” The Rock has probably doubled in size from all of the various layers of paint that’s been on it.
Senior Squirt Day: There has been a lot of drama surrounding Senior Squirt Day for the past few years. Ever since the switch to one-to-one, there have been concerns about people getting their computers ruined. However, this is still a beloved tradition that everyone is hoping will return to its former glory. Before seniors were limited to the parking lot, little siblings and underclassmen friends alike had something to fear… getting soaked! I, for one, am hoping that the administration will find a solution before next year so that I can dump a bucket of water all over my little sister.
The traditions at this school are part of what make it so great. It wouldn’t truly be Trinity without them.
