“Cause it’s too cold/For you here and now/So let me hold/Both your hands in the holes of my sweater.” If you don’t live under a rock, odds are that you know these lyrics by the hit alternative band, The Neighbourhood (The NBHD). After being released in 2013, “Sweater Weather” instantly became one of the most popular alternative songs of the year and even peaked the U.S. alternative charts at number 14. Since then, The NBHD’s new album, Wiped Out!, has clearly shown that the band’s sound and lyrics have matured significantly with much deeper lyrics and a more developed sound than heard previously.

R.I.P 2 My Youth

Dark, yet upbeat tune, this song is about growing up and moving on to the real world as an adult. This song perfectly describes The NBHD’s new sound with a more mature vibe and less of a teen anthem. “R.I.P 2 My Youth” is the first song that the band released on Wiped Out! and instantly became a hit.

Lyric

“Might be a sinner and I might be a saint/I’d like to be proud/But somehow I’m ashamed”

Cry Baby

“Cry Baby” has a fun, beachy vibe and is sure to put you in a good mood. It mixes surf rock with alternative to create a song about falling in love. The beat of the song is very catchy and will definitely leave you singing along to the new hit.

Lyric

“I know I’ll fall in love with you, baby/And that’s just what I’ll do I hope you won’t ever lie to me”

Wiped Out!

Being the longest song on the album at just over 6 minutes, “Wiped Out!” was a little too long for my liking. The song starts off really well with a relaxed beat, but it gradually slows down as the song progresses. At about 3 minutes, all the singing stopped and there was just what seemed to be a fire siren mixed with a slow drum in the background. The lack of singing went on for about a minute and a half which was honestly a little boring. If the song did not have the silence, this would definitely be at the top of my list for this album, but being at over 6 minutes, I definitely could not listen to this whole song more than once or twice.

Lyric

“I got some mixed emotions about how I’m handling the stress”

Single

“Single” starts off with a bit of a rastafarian vibe. It mixes different tropical instruments to create a song about losing someone who you are in love with. This is, by far, my favorite song on the album because of the fun tune and amazing lyrics

Lyric

“I can make you laugh until you cry you know you got all my attention you know you got all mine”

Wiped Out! is a great album for the upcoming winter season with a somber, yet calming vibe. The album is very calming, and still manages to have some catchy sing-along lyrics for fans to enjoy. This is definitely a step-up from The NBHD’s previous album, and there is no doubt that the band will sell many albums with their new and improved sound.
