Alexander Lehman still remembers how nerve-wracking it was to enter a new school, as he did so halfway through his junior year of high school. Luckily, his beloved business teacher Mr. Uteschill, or Mr. U for short, was ready to help him adjust to his new environment.
Mr. U is responsible for piquing Lehman’s interest in teaching, and he hopes to have a similar welcoming effect on his future students. After graduating from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management, he decided that he wanted to make an impact on students by becoming a high school teacher.
“I thought of him and decided to follow his route,” Lehman said.
Since then, Lehman has built an extensive teaching resume. He spent five years at Watson B. Duncan Middle School before spending another at Gateway High School. Now entering his seventh year of teaching after earning a Masters in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education, Lehman enjoys educating students because he feels like he makes a difference in the classroom.
“I love teaching,” Lehman said. “I love the ‘aha!’ moment of seeing students get excited about something that I am passionate about. It’s fun to come in every day and see smiling faces and to be able to share my knowledge with them.”
Lehman is excited to join the Trinity family as part of the computer science program, specifically joining the innovation and design team. He was drawn to Trinity Prep due to its ranking as the No. 1 STEM school in Central Florida according to the school ranking website Niche, but he quickly learned that Trinity’s biggest attribute is its tight-knit community.
“Learning more about the Trinity family really made me want to make it home,” Lehman said.
Lehman is ready to jump into the deep end of what Trinity has to offer. His involvement in students’ lives doesn’t stop in class, as he is taking on the job of middle school esports adviser, as well as helping out with robotics and assisting the soccer team.
With five years of soccer coaching experience, Lehman is excited to assist Trinity’s soccer program during his time here. He hopes to replicate the victory he experienced when he won the Middle School Boys’ District Championship at Watson B. Duncan Middle School.
While sitting in a classroom in high school is quite different from teaching one, Lehman is looking forward to continuing his teaching journey, always with Mr. U keeping him inspired.
