As the golf team gets ready for their next season, a new golf coach enters Trinity. Steve Brewer, who has been at Trinity for three weeks, is excited for the future of Trinity’s golf program. From the start of his life until now, Brewer knew that he wanted to have an impactful influence on his students.
Brewer grew up in Lansing, Michigan, and lived there until the age of 35. He found a great interest in basketball at a young age but soon realized that he would not be going to the NBA like some of his close friends did. After high school, Brewer found a love for golf and eventually decided to make it his career.
“Golf became my life, I got into teaching and coaching because it is something that I love and it’s definitely who I am,” Brewer said.
Brewer knew that he wanted to be a coach and help students like how his coaches in high school had helped him. Athletics were always a big part of his life. One of the coaches that influenced him in high school helped him get to where he is today. Brewer likes to say quotes that his coach used to say to him to his athletes.
Throughout Brewer’s whole life he has always wanted to coach, to give back what was given to him during his high school years, Trinity is a perfect place for Brewer. He plans on being at Trinity for a long time and inspiring many students, in everything that they do.
“As a coach you don’t get to play any of the shots or catch any of the passes, so watching them achieve goals that they didn’t think were possible,” Brewer said.
Brewer loves to encourage his students to set goals.
Not only does Brewer love to encourage his athletes while playing golf, he also loves to see them achieve their goals outside of the sport. One of his past students has recently finished his second year of medical school.
“He told me when he was 12 years old, he wanted to be a doctor and I didn’t doubt him, he is pretty driven,” Brewer said.
Brewer loves to watch his students grow into the version of themselves that they always wanted to be. Brewer has always been incredibly supportive of all of his athletes.
“Achievement comes when you are willing to put in the work and that process does not come overnight,” Brewer said.
Brewer encourages all athletes to respect the process and work with the process. Every student needs to fail in order to succeed in either the sport they are doing or something academically. Brewer also acknowledges that every student must fail in order to succeed in something.
Brewer is excited about the high-quality environment of Trinity.
“When I hear the words, Trinity Prep, I think of excellence both academically and athletically,” Brewer said.
Brewer loves Trinity Prep’s community and loves being involved with the students.
“I have yet to come across a person from Trinity prep that I didn’t think was just an outstanding person,” Brewer said.
Outside of his love for golf and Trinity, he is usually hanging out with his family. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, who is currently a sophomore at Florida State University. In his free time, he likes to spend time with his family either at the beach or just hanging out. Still, it is hard to get away from the temptations of golf.
“When I do have some free time for myself there is a pretty good chance I am playing golf anyway,” Brewer said.
He loves to do anything involved with golf, as you can see golf is his life.
Throughout Brewer’s whole life he has always wanted to coach, to give back what was given to him during his high school years, Trinity is a perfect place for Brewer. He plans on being at Trinity for a long time and inspiring many students, in everything that they do.
“You are going to fail sometimes and that will get you where you want to be,” said Brewer.
