On Tuesday, April 22, a meet and greet was held on the TPA pool deck, allowing Trinity parents and athletes to give a warm welcome to Corey Kephart, the new Trinity Prep Aquatics Director and Head Swim Coach. Kephart reminisces on how swimming has shaped the course of his life.
“I call myself a swimming geek,” Kephart said. “Swimming has been a part of my life and my family’s life since the beginning.”
Kephart started swimming when he was only ten years old. After high school, he began coaching swim in Eerie, Pennsylvania at his alma mater, Gannon University.
At Gannon, Kephart met his wife and received a bachelor’s degree in finance. Kephart moved back to Florida to have his children. Growing up around the pool, Kephart’s children have all pursued collegiate careers in swimming. After being a head coach in the NCAA for nearly three years, Kephart looks forward to bringing his experience and love for swimming to Trinity Prep.
Having coached at Berkeley Prep, Florida Central Catholic and Bishop Moore, Kephart is no stranger to coaching at private schools.
“Since I was away from the family at Wheeling (Kephart’s former school) for those three years,” Kephart said. “I want to spend time with the family and take advantage of this Florida sunshine.”
In his free time, Kephart likes to spend time with his family, try out new restaurants, attend art festivals and explore Florida.
“[I know] the ups, the downs, the highs, the lows,” Kephart said. “It’s not [about] coming in and focusing on a couple fast swimmers… It’s a matter of getting the younger, lower division to continue to swim.”
Kephart is eager to settle down and build the swim program at Trinity from the ground up.
