Hours before the game, members of the football team can be found in the weightlifting room stretching and socializing with one another. For them, its not just important to keep their bench press high but their camaraderie high as well.
One of the players in the room warming up for tonight’s game against Windermere Prep is senior Peyton Keith. Despite key players like senior Stanley Ritterbusch and junior Brodie Wordell being out due to injuries, Keith remains hopeful.
“Even though we’ve had a couple of injuries and a lot of people cramping, I think we’ve learned our lesson and will come a lot more prepared against Windermere,” Keith said.
Today is the Saint’s third game of the season, but during the pre-season Spring Jamboree, the football team played and defeated Windermere.
Keith believes that the football team can continue their success against tonight’s opponent
“We could definitely get three touchdowns and maybe even let them score zero,” Keith said.
A sentiment that is shared by both Keith and Football Coach Emanuel Williams is confidence in the team’s solidarity. Williams is proud of the team’s hard work this past week to unite under a team effort.
“I feel like we had our best week of practice all year and I feel like the kids are focused for tonight’s game,” Williams said.
Sticking to the basics, locking in and scoring points are the goals Williams has for the team; he hopes to use their past failures as the tool for future successes.
“What changed was watching film from last week’s game,” Williams said. “We said that the mistakes that we made were self-inflicted … if we doing our jobs then we should go out there and have a great week.”
