If you’re not going skiing or visiting a big city during spring break, chances are you will be sitting on the beach the entire week. If you are looking for activities to do around the oh-so uneventful Orlando, look no further.
Wekiwa Springs State Park
When the beach becomes boring after the sixth consecutive day, heading to Wekiwa Springs State Park is a nice way to change up your schedule. Lounging around the cool, aqua springs or picnicking in the forest is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. There are opportunities for kayaking and canoeing, as well as trails for biking and horseback riding. Try to arrive early, especially on weekends, because the park will book quickly. The park is open from 8 A.M. until sundown every day of the year. The entrance fees are $6 per vehicle, $4 for a single occupant vehicle, and $2 for pedestrians or bicyclists.
SAK Comedy Lab
There is probably no better way to spend the evening in Central Florida than at SAK Comedy Lab. It consistently has the funniest performances, attributed to the actors’ quips and impeccable timing. The best part about SAK is that the entire show is improv, with the audience and the actors never really knowing where the show will take them. If you loved that improvisational show, “Whose Line is It Anyway?,” then you’ll love SAK’s “Duel of Fools.” You’ll laugh so hard that your sides will ache. Tickets range from $5 to $15, and you can check the SAK Comedy Lab website for more details.
Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival
You don’t have to be the biggest art fanatic to appreciate the beauty of the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival. Held annually on Park Avenue, it is one of the oldest and highest ranked outdoor art festivals in Florida. There are a variety of mediums of art on display, ranging from clay to paintings, and from glass to leather. Every year this weekend is the busiest and most hectic for Park Avenue, but it’s also the most enjoyable and ebullient. The over stimulation of music, food and drinks, flowers, and, of course, artwork is capturing and worth the stroll down Park Avenue.
Concert- We The Kings
Looking for something inexpensive to do on a Saturday night? The rock goup, We the Kings, is having a concert at the Beacham in downtown Orlando. You probably know them for their platinum song, “Check Yes Juliet,” which peaked at number 70 on the Billboard charts. The Bradenton, Florida band has been good friends since childhood and started making music together in high school. Their music is catchy and upbeat, making it an easy concert to attend if you don’t know any of the songs or lyrics. General admission is $25.
