Freshman Victoria Moore waits for the 119th hour in line for the one-stall bathroom in Witmer Hall. These long hours of waiting feel like it has taken months to get where she is in line, but this is only the beginning of her wait time. Moore turns around and realizes that she is only about one quarter through the line. As she looks ahead, the line continues for what seems like forever. Moore wants to leave, but she knows that she has no other option than to wait until she gets there.
“I keep the days marked on my arms with ticks,” Moore said. “A day goes past, tick, a day goes past, tick, another day goes past, wondering if I will ever get to my destination.”
Moore has fallen behind in her schoolwork due to this long bathroom wait. This will leave her behind her other classmates.
“I left during my unit 6 math test, but once I got back we were already on the unit 7 math test,” Moore said. “I am falling so behind in all of my classes.”
Many other students are also struggling with these hard times of waiting for this one-stall bathroom. Senior, who is no longer a senior anymore after waiting so long, Taylor Riley complains that it is hard for her to continue the wait when she knows her senior year is almost over.
Riley is incredibly close to reaching the bathroom, but it is not very likely that she will make it in time, as the days continue to pass, Riley hopes that she will get to experience her summer. Students in this line age from sixth graders all the way to seniors but many of them will leave the line very behind.
“I turn around in the line and see young 6th graders joining the line,” Riley said. “I wish they knew what they were getting into. I wish I could warn them somehow.”
Other students entirely avoid this bathroom line by using other options.
“When I have to use the bathroom instead of waiting in the Witmer line I drive to my house and then come back,” senior Olivia Prince said.
Prince takes this route at least once a day making this way more efficient then waiting. Students take strong alternatives to not fall behind and have to wait in this line. Other students enjoy the line and try to get in the line daily.
“I like going in the line often because I start to miss class time and don’t have to do as much work,” freshman Sophia Caputo said.
Caputo has grown increasingly passionate towards this line, trying to get a spot each day. While some students enjoy the line teachers are growing upset with the continuously growing line to the bathroom. As they go through the hallway having trouble getting to their classrooms.
“When I walk to my classroom, I have to go through what seems like a warfield,” science teacher Bryan Moretz said. “There are kids everywhere waiting for the bathroom and it makes it difficult for anyone to do anything.”
Students have to go through endless troubles to use the bathroom and it becomes an inconvenience for everyone in Witmer.
“A lot of my students that leave for the bathroom come back, and are extremely behind, seeing their grades dropping rapidly,” Moretz said.
Many parents also complain about this line since they can not see their children as often. Parents are disappointed, missing the most important parts of their children’s lives.
“My graduation was 3 days ago, and I missed it,” Riley said. “The most important day that I have been waiting for, has now passed due to this one- stall bathroom.”
