VMAs bring the drama

Nicki and Miley and Kanye oh my! For weeks, MTV has been running Video Music Awards ads with none other than this year’s host herself, Miley Cyrus, on a green screen. Viewers came to expect a wild night, and on August 30th the VMA’s did not disappoint.

Before the show even began, the night was off to a crazy start with the wild fashion on the red carpet. Nicki Minaj walked the carpet in a scandalous gold dress, and Miley Cyrus left almost nothing to the imagination in her ensemble of buckles. Justin Bieber also debuted a new look and sparked quite the controversy with people arguing over which was better, the classic Bieber hairdo or his newer, edgier version.

To open the show, Minaj and Swift took the stage together, showing everyone that they are over their Twitter drama from the past months. Nick Jonas then came out to perform his song “Levels” and proved, once again, that he is definitely not a Disney kid anymore.

Tensions started to rise when Kanye West took a snooze while Swift accepted her award for Best Female Video… at least he let her finish this time! Minaj calling Cyrus out during her acceptance speech didn’t help the atmosphere either. Bieber was up next and apparently he found his own performance to be so amazing that it moved him to tears. It might have been more fitting if Bieber was singing “Baby” as he bawked on the stage in front of the entire live audience.

To bring their VMA history full circle, Swift presented West with the Video Vanguard Award. In a bizarre twist, West announced his intention to run for president in 2020. Do I see a Keeping Up With the Kardashians: Kim and Kanye Take the White House in the future?

To end the night with a bang, Cyrus performed a her song “Dooo it!!” and then proceeded to drop an entire free album. This year’s VMA’s definitely did not disappoint.
