Halloween is right around the corner, and while you may currently only be thinking about what you’re going to wear, it might be time to start thinking about what songs you’ll be listening to. Whether you’re just looking for tunes to get you in the Halloween spirit or need a playlist for your Halloween party, here’s a list of the top five Halloween songs of all time.

(Don’t Fear) The Reaper –Blue Oyster Cult

This major throwback, from 1976, may not be a typical party song, but its melodic tune will have you moving to the beat. Although it doesn’t mention Halloween like some of the other songs, it made it on this ranking because of its mention of the Reaper as well as the fact that this is the type of song you would listen to while running through a haunted forest in a horror movie.

I Put a Spell on You –Bette Miller

You may recognize this up beat number from the Disney movie, Hocus Pocus. Although it may sound cheery, the lyrics aren’t quite as cheery. In the extremely popular 1993 movie, Hocus Pocus, the three witches actually put a spell on the audience members by singing this song. While you don’t have to worry about any evil spells, you may have to worry about breaking out in a spell of dancing.

This Is Halloween –Marilyn Manson

Another song from a movie soundtrack, The Nightmare Before Christmas, is a true classic. While the lyrics are more or less chanted then sung, “This is Halloween” is still a fun one to listen to, and even though its not horrifying, it still has a spooky effect.

Monster Mash –Bobby Pickett

This old fashioned song will get you dancing your own version of the monster mash. Even though it’s rather slow, it still has a chorus that’s easy to learn and sing along to. It’s hard to imagine a Halloween playlist without this spooky classic.

Thriller –Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson’s most popular song earned its spot as number one on this list for its electro beat and a commonly known dance to go with it. The song itself may not be scary, but just wait till you see Michael Jackson as a werewolf and zombie in the 13 minute long music video. Although it may be on old song, it’s a hard one to get out of your head.
