When people think of the rock genre, the iconic bands The Rolling Stones, Nirvana and The Beatles come to mind. However, there’s another rock band lying in the shadows. Since the American rock band Yellowcard was formed in 2000, it has released nine albums. The bands’ most famous songs, “Ocean Avenue,” “Only One,” and “Lights and Sounds,” have gained popularity throughout the years. Yellowcard released its 10th self titled album, Yellowcard on Sept. 30.

“Rest in Peace”

“Rest in Peace” is Yellowcard’s most emotional piece because it’s about thanking all of the bands fans for the support they have given throughout the years. The band really tried to make this song meaningful by personalizing the lyrics to connect with fans. The lyrics “It was the best that you could be for me I think we were lucky just to stay alive” express that their fans have helped them throughout their journey as a band. Yellowcard always manages to bring a new sense of style into each songs.

“Empty Street”

The track “Empty Street” is very appealing to all listeners because of its originality. The track has a very unique and distinct sound from the rest of the songs on the album. The strong beat from the drum and strong vocals from lead singer, Ryan Key, made the song one of the most powerful on the album.

“What Appears”

Beginning with the beat drop, “What Appears” leads into a high energy rhythm. Although most of the time the songs beat was off tempo, you always feel compelled to listen to it. The track reminds me of Yellowcard’s song “Only One” which is on the fourth album, Ocean Avenue.

Even if you don’t like rock, you should go check out Yellowcard at the House of Blues in Orlando on Wed, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.
