Written by John Green, the critically acclaimed novel The Fault in Our Stars has captured hearts around the globe. This emotional yet whimsical story has affected readers in a way they never knew possible, and the heart-wrenching tale is now coming to the big screen. We will soon be able to see the loving characters brought to life.
Even though The Fault in Our Stars may seem to target the young adult crowd because of the sappy teen romance aspect, it is a book that can be enjoyed by by age. I personally read the novel two years ago and have reread it many times. The book was particuarly enjoyable because the romance was not the major factor of the book.
The Fault in Our Stars is a touching novel told from the perspective of Hazel, a sixteen-year-old cancer patient. Hazel has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Thyroid cancer, and she is able to live thanks to an imaginary drug called Phalanxifor. Even with this make believe drug, Hazel’s life has an expiration date. Hazel soon meets the witty and extremely charming Augustus Water who, you guessed it, is also a cancer patient. A tragic teenage romance probably sounds cliché and over the top. But alas, what makes this book so unique is how Green takes the focus away from the romance aspect; he instead targets the emotional yet witty bond between two people who are both suffering from the same tragedy.
What makes this book more moving than any other tragic romance? I pride myself upon the fact that I hardly ever cry after reading a book, but The Fault in Our Stars has me sobbing like a baby everytime I read it. The characters in the novel are so real, and I feel like I know them personally. The authenticity of the characters is what makes this book touching.
The Fault in Our Stars has torn my heart out several times, and I swear a part of my soul shrivels up and dies everytime I read it. The movie is set to be released on June 6, 2014. Josh Boone will be directing the movie, Shailene Woodley will star as Hazel, and Ansel Elgort will star as Augustus.
Shailene Woodley is best known for her starring roles in Secret Life of the American Teenager and The Descendants. She will also be starring in Divergent, which will be released in 2014.
Meanwhile, Ansel Elgort is a new face to the big screens. Elgort also landed a role in Divergent, and he is starring in Carrie, which was released earlier this month.
Let’s hope this movie is released soon. That way we can all grab our tissues and witness an incredible book come to life.
