Devoted Beliebers have been waiting for Justin Bieber’s newest album to be released for more than three years, and Purpose definitely gave fans what they have been waiting for. Bieber’s lyrics, tune and sound matured severely since his last album release, Believe, in 2012. He has since grown up, given up on his repetitive teen-anthems and is now focused on more sincere pop ballads mixed with an electronic tune. Despite this growth, Bieber is still touching on singing about love. Rumor has it that at least four songs on Purpose are about his previous love interest, Selena Gomez. Earlier this month Bieber admitted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he will always be in love with Gomez and even believes that she is “the one.” While we all know hit tracks from Purpose like “What Do You Mean” and “Where Are Ü Now” that have been playing on practically every radio station since the end of August, there are some less notable tracks that will become famous in almost no time.
“Life is Worth Living”
This is definitely one of the slower songs on Bieber’s album, but it does not disappoint. It is one of the saddest, yet most romantic ballads that Bieber has ever released. Bieber sings about making important decisions in life and forgiving loved ones, while a piano plays in the background. This song is most likely about Gomez and Bieber’s past relationship, comparing their love to an avalanche on a ski slope. Bieber manages to hit some amazing notes with a tune that I haven’t heard from him in any of his previous songs.
“Company”
This song started off with a really fun vibe. “Company” focuses on spending times with family and will even make you want to get up and start dancing along with the high, upbeat tune. Even with this song’s cheery tune, I found it a little repetitive and it quickly got boring for me by the end.
“Love Yourself”
Famous musician, Ed Sheeran, was a special guest on this hit song. Sheeran even helped co-write it with Bieber. The two artists’ very different sounds collaborated quite nicely to sing about Bieber’s unrequited love for Gomez. This is another slow track on the album and is sang acoustically. The lyrics that truly show it is about Gomez are: “My mama don’t like you and she likes everyone.”
“No Sense”
Rapper Travi$ Scott made a guest appearance in this duo performance. This is probably my favorite up-tempo song on the new album because of the amazing lyrics and a small rap that really made it complete. In this song, Bieber managed to hit some amazing high notes that we can all recognize from some of his past hits like “Baby.”
Bieber surely stepped up from his previous albums and gave his audience more of a variety of songs, rather than only sing-along pop songs. This album will definitely keep all the loyal Beliebers wanting more.
