“Riverdale” is finally back after much anticipation. If you thought season one was good, season two is even better. Season one revolved around the murder of Jason Blossom, which left the small town of Riverdale shocked and exposed. With the investigation of his murder, the town’s deepest darkest secrets were revealed.
The ending of season one left the viewers puzzled, holding lots of unanswered questions over their heads. The big question on everyone’s mind is the condition of Fred Andrews? While hanging out with his son Archie at Pop’s Diner, Fred was shot in the chest by a masked man and rushed to the hospital by his son. The season ended there, leaving us to believe that he may be dead. That torment is finally over since we now know that Fred Andrews is alive. But a new puzzle presents itself—why was he shot? The sheriff of Riverdale believes this is just a robbery gone wrong, while Jughead, Archie’s best friend, disagrees. Jughead believes that this was no accident and that Fred Andrews was shot for a reason.
After witnessing the shooting of his father, Archie is left devastated and takes the blame on himself. He is left haunted by the shooter, tormented by visions of the criminal’s piercing green eyes showing through his mask.. Archie, however, is comforted by his new girlfriend Veronica, leaving hope for a happy future in season two.
The relationship of Jughead and Betty was just beginning to blossom towards the end of the season, but it takes a lurch sideways when Jughead joins the South Side Serpents, a local gang ran by Jughead’s dad.
One of the major changes of the season is the tone. Season two becomes much darker, fast. Even though both of the seasons are about murders, season two doesn’t focus on the happy aspects. The ending of the first episode is what really showed the change of tone. Miss Grundy, Archie’s former teacher and secret girlfriend, is murdered in the comfort of her house by the same man who shot Fred Andrews. This leads the viewers to assume the masked man with green eyes is going after anyone close to Archie.
I am very hopeful for season two with the way the first episode went. I think it will live up to season one, or maybe even surpass it. Fans should expect a darker season with all of the drama that has gone on including the shooting Fred Andrews, Miss Grundy’s murder and the burning of Mrs. Blossom. But there are other exciting aspects to look forward to, like Veronica’s father coming home from jail and the introduction of new characters such as Betty’s brother and Veronica’s ex-boyfriend.
