Childhood stars struggle with the limelight

In this day and age, the idea of perfection comes from material possessions and physical features.  Whether it is having the nicest clothing, the skinniest figure, the perfect complexion or the best personality, most Americans feel the pressure to be “perfect” from people who exhibit these qualities.  We always hear about ways to replicate these “perfect people” but what we don’t usually focus on is the even greater pressure to be a social figure for our culture.  How do these famous people handle the spotlight on them all hours of the day?  Why do some people flourish in the limelight while others cannot take the heat?

We all know the classic age-old story of 2006-2007 Britney Spears.  After becoming a world renowned pop star, things took a turn for the worst when she shaved her head and lost custody rights of her children.  Although this was eight years ago, celebrities falling from grace are a common trend in the entertainment industry.

Even today, the same thing happens to famous people every year.  Amanda Bynes has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and has been in and out of rehab.  After hosting her own television show, she made a name for herself at a very young age.  Another child star, Miley Cyrus, became famous from her hit television show, Hannah Montana, on Disney channel.  Struggling to transition from childhood to adulthood, Cyrus changed her image and is struggling with drug addiction and substance abuse.   Rising to stardom from Youtube, Justin Bieber went from a small town Canadian boy to an international popstar in the course of a year.  Not knowing how to deal with the fame and the money, Justin Bieber has been arrested for a DUI as well as detained for public indecency.

The pressure to be perfect is way too overwhelming for many young kids.  Thrown into the spotlight with the eyes of the world watching your every move is sometimes too much for teenagers.   Going from owning nothing of your own to having millions, is something that can make any young adult feel lost.  Being able to buy whatever you want whenever you want it, is a novelty that people start to take advantage of over time.
