Every year while most people are decorating their Christmas trees, 8th grader Cristina Garton is packing her ski gear to get ready to go down the slope. Garton and her family go skiing every year like a handful of Trinity students who routinley travel during winter break. Whether it’s the city hub or the snowy peace, these trips create many meaningful bonds with families and friends, but most of all, some memories they will always remember.
For the past four years, eighth grader Sula Rooth’s family has been going to New York City.
“It started mostly when parents figured out that spot and how everybody used to go so then we kind of wanted to join in with that trend,”she said.
During her yearly trip, Rooth prioritizes activities like walking around Central Park and shopping at SOHO.
In contrast to the high-speed NYC trip, senior Charlotte Lightman has been skiing in places like Utah and Colorado since she was five. Skiing has been an important part of Lightman’s life since it’s not an activity that she can do in Florida.
“Skiing in the mountains is so beautiful,” Lightman said.
According to the trip website Remento, family traditions like trips provide a lasting experience and shared memories. Trips also provide oppurtunities to try new things and challenge yourself.
“My favorite memory is probably when I went down my first Black Diamond,” Lightman said. “That was really fun and I felt really proud after it.”
Garton usually spends her days skiing, sledding, and even going to a hot tub!
Like every family trip, Lightman’s vacations always come with their fair share of unexpected moments.
“It’s usually my birthday when we go on the trip, so they usually try to embarrass me on the trip, so they’ll sing Happy Birthday every single dinner really loudly,” Lightman said.
Although many students travel, some stay home and enjoy the simplicity of their home.
“I like to spend time with my family, and walk around my neighborhood to look at the Christmas lights,” 8th grader Kaley Chen said.
These trips create appreciation, confidence, and so much more, and although staying athome can be top for most, going on vacation is always a good time.
“I’m just really grateful to be able to spend time with my friends and family and also being able to travel somewhere so pretty,” Lightman said.
