On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Trinity Prep’s Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team defeated the Tohopekaliga Tigers in a commanding fashion, 14-0.
From the opening face-off, the Saints set the tone. Their offense moved quickly and confidently, capitalizing on early opportunities and overwhelming the Tigers’ defense. By the end of the first quarter, they led 7-0.
Assistant Athletic Director Rita Kienle shared her thoughts about the game after the dominant first quarter.
“So far, it’s been an amazing game,” Kienle said. “We are only a quarter in and Brodie Wordell has 2 goals and David Myers has a hat trick.”
Trinity showed no signs of slowing down. By halftime, Trinity led 9-0, with Myers adding another goal to bring his first-half total to 4. Trinity maintained control in the second half and cruised to a 14-0 victory. The game was over far before the whistle blew.
While Myers’ offensive performance stood out, underclassmen played a major role in the victory. Sophomore Brady Kohm and 8th grader Archer Marx both scored in the first half, demonstrating the depth and youth the team has.
Because Tohopekaliga was a younger, smaller team, Trinity was able to use their physicality to control the game. Trinity’s offense applied constant pressure and their defense delivered body checks and forced turnovers, preventing the Tigers from scoring the entirety of the game.
Beyond the final score, the game highlighted Trinity’s strong team chemistry. Consistent communication on the field indicated the team is already building a clear identity just 3 games into the season.
“We just executed,” Varsity starter Brodie Wordell, a junior, said. “We ran our plays, we ran our game, we ran fast and physically.”
With the victory, the Saints improved to 3-0 on the season while the Tigers fell to 0-5. Trinity will look to carry their momentum into their next matchup away at Lake Highland on Friday, Feb. 20.
